Parent Community

North Shore Montessori School is more than just a facility for your child, we are a community. We value the partnership between home and school and welcome open communication, team work , and parental involvement. We take pride in the many ways in which parents can become involved at NSMS.

Parent Communication

Here at NSMS, we take a lot of pride in our clear and conscious communication. Parents have access to Transparent Classroom, our hub system, that allows you to see your child's attendance, sequence of lessons, and classroom photos. There are two formal parent teacher conferences held yearly, one progress report sent home in spring, two opportunities to have your children show you their classroom and activities they have been working on via a Share Night, and opportunities to schedule observations. We have an open door policy, if you ever have questions or concerns about your child please reach out to make an appointment with your child's teacher.

Parent

Education

Please take advantage of the Parent Education Events that we offer several times each school year. We organize teacher presentations and outside sources that focus on a specific parenting topic. Questions and discussion are welcome, as we all commit to all learning more about each-other and best practices.

Community

Coffees

Current families, prospective families, and community members are always welcome to attend our monthly community coffees on the first Wednesday of each month in our conference room at 8:30 a.m. Join Tracy Theisen, our Head of School, and Sarah Dosmann, our Enrollment Specialist, as they host a topic of discussion, with coffee for all.

Volunteer

Opportunities

There are so many ways to volunteer at NSMS, we value all of our parent's unique talents, gifts, and backgrounds. We are always looking for help with fundraising, events, open houses, and after school clubs. The Montessori curriculum is built around global culture, we value when parents come in and share a tradition, holiday, or special recipe for example. If you are interested in volunteering or just learning more about an event, reach out to our enrollment specialist, Sarah Dosmann.

Fundraising

As a private non-profit school, we rely on fundraising to offset many of our endeavors and scholarship program. A few fundraisers we have held in the past include: Festival of Arts, Parents Night Out Event, Walk-a-Thon, and our annual celebration of Latin Culture at our Noche de Mercado.

Board Members

Our school is directed by a collection of parent and community members that serve as volunteers on our board of directors. If you are interested in learning more, or nominating an individual, please reach out to our head of school, Tracy Theisen.

Outdoor Work Parties

These bi-annual events are two of our family favorite ways to volunteer. We join on a Saturday morning and aid in maintaining and beautifying our green spaces. Children are more than welcome as many hands make light work!

Lending Library

Did you know we have a lending library, full of wonderful Montessori resources and parenting literature. Please check it out next time you are in our lobby and ask for recommendations anytime.

Birthday Celebrations

Each classroom has a unique way of celebrating, but generally birthday celebrations in a Montessori classroom are a special way to honor the child, learn about the child's family and history of life, and tell stories. Parents are invited in to share in this joyous event and be apart of the child's special day at school.  Children with summer birthdays are invited to celebrate on their half-birthdays.

Community Events

A few times a year, our parent community takes the lead and plans some FUN events. A great way to connect is to join our private Facebook group: NSMS Parent Share. In the past we have done a collective zoo day and Brewer's game for example!

 Parent Resources

If you are looking for specific recommendations or resources regarding tutors, family therapists, or other types of professional help, we are happy to assist. We have a few verified resources on file and would love to share.  We even have a list of trusted alumni babysitters for your next date night!
