Accreditation
North Shore Montessori School is AMI compliant by the Association Montessori International, an association that was founded by Dr. Maria Montessori to safeguard and further her ideas and principles. There are over 40 affiliates around the globe, including the United States, AMI-USA. In the past North Shore Montessori School was a member of AMI-USA, however, as of November 2025 we are instead aligned with the Association Montessori International, based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Our standards are the same. The only difference is that you will not see our name on the AMI-USA website.
In accordance to standards, NSMS adheres to the following tenants:
- Qualified teachers: Each class needs at least one teacher with an official AMI diploma for the relevant age level.
- Classroom assistants: An AMI-approved classroom can have one non-teaching assistant per class.
- Classroom composition: Classes must have a balanced division of ages within the appropriate age range and a suitable number of children for social development.
- Classroom materials: All classrooms have a complete set of approved Montessori didactic materials
- Uninterrupted work periods: Children's House and Elementary classes require prolonged, uninterrupted work periods
