Programs

Developing life-long learners who embody the principles of empathy, innovation, and collaboration – begins in the classroom. At North Shore Montessori School, we offer programs for ages 20 months to 12 year old, which are firmly built on the Montessori principles of integrated subjects and mixed-age classrooms.

Prima Community

Ages 20-36 Months +

A child’s first community before Primary Children’s House, the Prima Program is a carefully prepared environment where children use materials to independently perform daily tasks. Emphasis is placed on language acquisition, practical life exercises, art, music, movement, and time spent in nature. See a sample of their day here

Our AMI trained staff guide the child’s interaction with the environment and give freedom with responsibility to allow them to become strong individuals capable of independent action. Taking advantage of the self-centered and egocentric nature of this age group, the environment allows for intense absorption in their specific interests.

This one to two academic year program, depending on your child's age, is the best preparation for continuing the journey of Montessori in the Children's House Community.

Primary Children's House

3 - 6 years old

This is the Absorbent Period where children learn effortlessly. The enriching  environment, beautiful Montessori materials and teacher-led lessons invite children to explore, and construct knowledge at their own pace. This is respect for the child. Successfully completing a lesson, mastering a new concept, and acting as a leader to the younger children provide authentic feedback needed to believe the world is a place of endless possibilities. The Montessori curriculum follows a unique sequuence and is a scaffoled pedagody, preparing children to excel in their Elementary years.

Elementary

Lower Elementary, Grades 1 - 3

Upper Elementary, Grades 4-6

Elementary children can be characterized by their reasoning minds, their ability to abstract and imagine, and their passion for research and exploration. This is an age when creativity, learning, cooperation, imagination, and responsibility all grow and thrive. See a sample of their day here

Ongoing presentations, independent study and practice, and regular conferencing with an adult guide are supplemented by “going out” into the wider Milwaukee community where curiosity and the love of learning are fed. As children acquire knowledge and build skills, they also acquire confidence and excitement for the bright future that lies ahead of them.
